Membership Information

Welcome Message
from the Executive Committee

We are very pleased, on behalf of the Commissioners, to announce the formation of the Indigenous Commission for Communications Technologies in the Americas (ICCTA).  Now that we have completed the work necessary to establish the fundamentals for the Indigenous Commission we are excited about the potential to begin our work and invite you to join us as a member (membership info here).

This Indigenous Commission was created through a resolution of delegates who attending the 1st Indigenous Workshop on Information and Communications Technologies held in Mexico City, November 28 to 30, 2005.  The Workshop was co-hosted by the Telecommunications Development Bureau of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the Mexican Administration through its National Commission for the Development of Indigenous People (CDI) and the Communications and Transport Secretariat.

We formed our Commission at a meeting in Antigua, Guatemala on March 6-8, 2007.  We wish to thank the Government of Canada for providing the financial support that enabled us to hold this planning meeting to form the Commission.

Included in this announcement is information on the vision, goals and structure for the Commission.  We believe our Commission will be an important added way for our people and those who support us to make a positive difference in the lives of our people and the strength of our communities through the development of appropriate information and communications technologies.  We invite all interested parties to participate with us in that endeavor.
